There are a few hostels in downtown Chicago.  Though this one is the most expensive, it is by far the nicest, largest and the staff are friendly.  I've stayed here a few times.  They have 10 people dorms and 6 people dorms.  The 6 people dorms are nice but $5 or so more per night.  Definitely worth the money if they are available.
